It’s my birthday…
…and as is now customary, I wanted to take the opportunity to write a lil newsletter to let you know what I’m up to!

With May 1st just around the corner (AKA ‘Folk Christmas’!) things are BUSYYYY!
First up, I have my solo show ‘Oss Girls opening on 1 May at Field System in Devon! Reimagining the hobby horse tradition from a feminist perspective, I’ll also be showing my first ever sculptural works—made from felt and clay—as well as various performance stills and artefacts.
The PV is from 6-8pm on 1 May at 13 West Street, Ashburton, and runs til 18 May, with a mini festival on the weekend of 5-6th. Loads of fun stuff planned including a talk and hedge morris workshop from me, tea leaf reading, performances and a screening of the Way of the Morris film.
I’ll also be showing new work at the fabulous NeoAncients festival in Stroud, which has THE MOST stellar line-up including Jeremy Deller, Weird Walk, Bridget Christie, Zakia Sewell, Gruff Rhys, Boss Morris, Ben Edge…I could go on! It runs from 3-5 May and I’ll be there on the evening of 3rd! I’m going to be fan-girling all over the place!
It’s a L-O-N-G way from home for me, but if you’re anywhere near, please do stop by and say ‘hello’—or else I’ll also be offering a couple of ‘virtual’ tours, so please keep an eye on my Instagram for details of how to sign up!
And if that’s not enough, I’ve also got a couple of pieces in a gorgeous lil exhibition, Bealtaine: Femmes in Folklore, at Mandy Apple Collective in Scarborough—running from 3-31 May.
And of course, I’m also extending a warm invitation to join me (virtually) in dancing the sun up on May morning as part of my ongoing ‘hedge morris dancing’ project. You can read a short article about it in Tradfolk, if you’re not familiar, but rest assured that it’s going to be bigger and hedgier than ever, with REAL leather badges from The Badgesmith and a video shot by Jonny Randall. I literally can’t wait!
Looking ahead, I’m speaking at Conway Hall in London on 29 June as part of ‘Art/Magic/Lore’ (tickets available now!) and adding a new piece (‘Our Lady of the Towpath’) to the collection at the National Waterways Museum in Gloucester, as well as preparing for performances and workshops at Timber and Greenbelt festivals (as well as Sidmouth Folk Fest) in the summer…
It’d be lovely to see you somewhere along the way.
Your pal, Lucy
